Nomadic Grounds is a humble getaway destination which provides tourists with an experience of blending into the pristine nature of the Latvian countryside. Visitors can decide where to stay by driving their portable cabins. Each time a traveler comes the experience would differ depending on which path and touristic scenario they choose. Cabins with flexible enclosures will allow the interior space to embrace the surrounding nature. Inspired by the traditional Latvian architecture, cabins consist of timber structure and thatch finishing. The project also tries to explore the variations of the unique Latvian vernacular architecture and construction. Built with local materials - five timber structures topped with the traditional pitched and thatched gable roof - are sparsely deployed around the whole site. Respecting the invaluable context, this primitive and light construction will minimize the site interventions. Each structural system is designed to serve respective public amenities such as reception, barbecue, meditation, sauna, and observation, all connected and open to the surrounding landscape.
